What we do
Every job below is quoted before we start, in writing, with the parts listed by name. No hourly surprises, no "while we're in there" upcharges. If we open a wall and the problem is smaller than we thought, the price goes down, not up.

Faucets, Fixtures & Toilets
Dripping cartridges, running flappers, a shower valve that scalds when the neighbor flushes. We carry Moen, Delta, and Kohler cartridges for pre-war and post-war buildings alike, plus the obscure ones the co-op installed in 1994.

Leaks & Pipe Repair
Stained ceiling, hissing wall, water where water shouldn't be. We trace with acoustic and thermal gear before we cut anything, so the hole in your plaster is the size of the problem — not the size of a guess.

Drains & Sewer Lines
Kitchen stacks in these buildings are ninety years old and full of grease. We snake, jet, and — when it keeps coming back — run a camera down the line and hand you the footage so you can see exactly what the co-op board is going to argue about.

Gas Piping & Permits
New gas line for a range or dryer, leak test, and the filing that goes with it. We're licensed in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, and we'll sit through the inspection so you don't have to take the morning off.

Commercial & Restaurant
We keep a lot of Bleecker and MacDougal kitchens running. Grease trap service, backflow testing, three-compartment sink installs, and a night crew that works after last call so you open on time. Ask for the restaurant rate sheet.

We take card, check, and Zelle. No deposit on residential work. Emergency calls between 10:30 PM and 6 AM go to the answering service and are billed at the evening rate.
The shop on Bleecker
56 Electric & Plumbing has been at 357 Bleecker since 1978, back when the block still had a butcher and two shoe repair shops. It started as an electrical outfit — hence the name, which we've never gotten around to changing — and picked up plumbing in 1991 when the city started requiring both trades on the same job for most of the older buildings down here.
We're a small shop on purpose. Four licensed plumbers, two electricians, one office manager who has been answering the phone since 2004 and can tell you from your address whether you're on a shared stack or a direct line. Most of our work comes from people who called us once, ten years ago, and never called anyone else.
We know these buildings. The 1890s tenements with the original cast iron. The 1920s co-ops with the risers in the kitchen wall. The converted carriage houses where nothing is where the plans say it is. That knowledge is most of the job — the wrench work is the easy part.

Before we arrive
If you can, shut the nearest valve and put a bucket under it. For a gas smell, call Con Edison first at 1-800-752-6633, then us. For a heater that's out in winter, tell us the make and the tank size on the label — it saves a trip.
